Duke of Edinburgh Expedition

On the 13th and 14th June, 22 year 10 pupils from St Thomas a Becket College Duke of Edinburgh Award Group went on their Bronze Practice Expedition.

They camped and walked around Ingbirchworth, Penistone for one night and two days. Liz Woodward from Wakefield Open Award allowed our group to join her Bronze and Silver award participants (some of whom are also Beckets pupils) at their campsite and helped Mrs Martin-Speight, Mr Brown and Mrs Fallon keep track of the groups. The pupils did extremely well and persevered with their routes despite very hot weather and having to carry all their equipment on their backs. When the pupils arrived back at the campsite on Saturday evening, they all had the challenge of erecting their tents and cooking a meal on their trangia stoves. There then followed some fun with a sleeping bag race! Everyone awoke early on Sunday morning to the sound of cows mooing. After breakfast, everyone packed their tents up and set off for another days walking.There was a definite feeling of accomplishment and exhaustion as each group arrived back at the campsite for the final time.

All the staff were very proud of our pupils and we are looking forward to seeing their determination again on the Qualifying Expedition on 19th and 20th September.
