Ardeche Adventure 2009
On the 24th July, forty-two of our pupils went on an Adventure holiday to the Ardeche in the South of France.
They climbed, abseiled, canoed, jumped off 40ft high telegraph poles as well as taking part in hiking and mountain biking sessions. Pupils were all taught essential rope safety techniques and were responsible for belaying each other across, up and down all of the high rope challenges. Taking part in some of the many team challenges was very memorable as well as being extremely funny. In the evenings pupils played ping pong, basketball, water Rugby (!) in the River and had many water fights, one of which was directed at Mrs. McIntyre!
The highlight of the week was the two day canoeing expedition down the Ardeche River itself where we had great fun capsizing each other and cliff jumping. At lunch time we spent time relaxing and taking in the breath taking scenery and the famous Ardeche Gorge before jumping back in our canoes for another few miles of paddling. After having a hearty dinner to refuel us for the following day we camped underneath the stars on the banks of the river before we completed the final leg of the descent down the river.
The pupils did extremely well in all the activities that they had chance to participate in. Mrs. McIntyre, Mrs. Good, Mrs. Martin-Speight, PC Amos and Mr. Good had a great time and were all very proud of the pupils’ behaviour, attitude and efforts throughout the week. They were even more impressed with the pupils’ energy on the twenty-four hour coach journey and the mammoth Mama Mia sing along that took place on the coach.
There was a real sense of accomplishment and exhaustion as we arrived back at Becket’s a week later but we would do it all again if we got the chance.
Lets ‘Shake Down’ Becket’s!
