Catherine's
ballet dream comes true
A YOUNG dancer is in a spin after her dreams came true when she
won a place at a prestigious ballet college.
Crofton’s Catherine Alba got a letter last week telling her
she had secured a place at the Royal College of Ballet – a
place she had been dreaming about since she was three.
The 13-year-old, from Ashdene Drive, fell in love with ballet as
a youngster and had been dreaming of being a dancer ever since.
She practised almost every day and auditioned in Leeds and London
for the college.
Now her wish has come true as she will take up a place at the London
college in September.
She said: “I am really looking forward to it. I’m so
excited. I’ve always wanted to go to the Royal Ballet College
and now it’s given me a big opportunity to do well at ballet.
“I had two left feet when I first started, but now I like
all sorts of dancing like modern and tap as well. But my favourite
is definitely ballet because I am strongest at it.”
Currently a student at St Thomas a Becket, the youngster said she
was excited about the move. She said: “I don’t mind
going away. I will miss my family but it’s something that
I really want to do.”
Mum Maria is very proud. She said: “We will miss her so much
but she’s worked really hard for this. She’s my baby
and they don’t usually leave this young but I know she will
love it.”
Catherine, who attends Victoria Stansfield College of Dance, in
Wakefield, added: “I love Darcy Bussell, she’s my favourite
ballet dancer and maybe one day, I’ll be famous like her.”
