Y9 Drama workshop to raise important issuesY9 Drama workshop to raise important issues

As part of the Healthy School's Under Control Project, Yew Tree Theatre Company have come to Beckets to develop a performance based around the issues of substance abuse and peer pressure; to be shown to Year 6 on their transition days.

Year 9 students who were taking Drama at GCSE were asked to participate in two two hour workshops, where they worked with the theatre company to help create a range of characters and scenarios that could be incorporated into the performance which will be written by Yew Tree.

The workshops were interactive and challenged students to think about their acting skills but also about situations that are relevant to young people of their age.

Here are some of thoughts of the students:

"It is very exciting and gives us a chance to build our confidence." Thomas Wright

"You feel like you can really share your talents and not worry about what other people think." Catherine Thompson

"It's good because you get to work with people you wouldn't normally." Francis Drafz

"It's a good atmosphere with the people around you and you get to act out and explore issues and new things." Emily Weir
