Pupils "s t r e t c h i n g" their English skills!Pupils "s t r e t c h i n g" their English skills!

Year 11 students embrace the opportunity to work with AQA Principal Examiner, Peter Buckroyd, in a unique ‘Stretched Targets’ workshop.

Eighteen Year 11 students enjoyed the rare privilege of working with Peter Buckroyd in developing and fine-tuning their exam skills in preparation for the English GCSEs this summer, on Tuesday 19th February, 2008. Serving as a confidence booster, as well as an occasion for realising the potential of skills and techniques which can be transferable across various subject areas, pupils participated in intense, conference-style sessions at Woolley Hall this Tuesday.

Participating students commented on the day’s highlights:

“I enjoyed the day out. It allowed you to learn more about the presentation of your work and the important language and structure you need to put into it.”

“Mr Buckroyd was quite funny and he treated us like adults, which I enjoyed.”

“The day was really informative. It helped me in all aspects of the English GCSE.”

Pupils "s t r e t c h i n g" their English skills! The LA-funded day made a significant impact on all pupils involved and accompanying staff, who felt lucky to work in such close contact with the experts who write the GCSE syllabi and assessment materials. The students were praised for their focused attitude, smart appearance and their already-encouraging level of subject knowledge.

We look forward with anticipation to working again, alongside students from other local schools, next year in order to achieve our fullest potential possible!
