Year
10 get a taste of Industry
On the penultimate week of the Summer term, our year 10 students were
taken off timetable for four days to enable them to participate in Enterprise
and Industry Week 2008.
During the course of the week students signed up for a number of activities
including the R.A.F., The Army, The Environment Challenge, Gardening and
Allotment, The Police, Town Planning and Journalism.
Students spent the first day of the week on a 'Carousel' during which
they were able to write their individual C.Vs and personal statements,
take part in an interview skills seminar and learned how to present themselves
in preparation for college and job interviews.
The rest of the week gave members of this particular year group the opportunity
of gaining expertise in a wide variety of different areas and possible
job choices with the express aim of improving skills in such diverse areas
as working as part of a team, communication and motivation skills, being
self reliant and improving their physical fitness.
One particular group spent the week interviewing student participants
and staff volunteers in order to produce a 'newspaper' detailing the weeks
activities. A copy of the finished product is attached!!
A reporter and photorgrapher from the Wakefield Express came into school
to interview the 'conscripts' for the Army and a report of the weeks activities
appeared in the newspaper.
Another small group of students spent the week landscaping and creating
an allottment area which involved considerable hard work and lots of mud!!!
The participants certainly seemed to enjoy 'getting their hands dirty'
and the finished result stands in testomony to the hard work that they
put in!!!
