Making the Right Impression [Image: Scientific Games with Year 10 students]Beckets Tops Key Stage 4 Achievement and Attainment Tables

THE latest Key Stage 4 performance tables released by the DfES on Thursday, 19 January, show St Thomas à Becket Catholic College has one of the best contextual value added figures in Wakefield and has the highest pass rate for the fourth year running using the new A*-C including ESnglish and Mathematics indicator.

The Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 school contextual value added score of 1024.4 is the second highest in the borough and in the top 10% of schools nationally. The Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 English contextual value added score is in the top 6% of schools nationally. The contextual value added scores are shown as measures based around 1000 and those above 1000 represent schools where students on average made more progress than similar students nationally, while measures below 1000 represent schools where students made less progress. Becket's result means that on average the college's students achieved the equivalent of one GCSE grade higher in three subjects than the median - or middle value - for students with similar prior attainment.

Other success is the number of students who achieve 5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE including English and Mathematics. This is a new measure being piloted by the DfES and gives a better indication of achievement including key skills such as literacy and numeracy. This measure shows that St Thomas à Beckets has had (and still has) the highest pass rate for the last four years in the Wakefield borough, currently at 66%.
