Treble Celebration at BecketsTreble Celebration at Beckets

St Thomas à Becket Catholic College held a treble celebration on Friday 26th January to mark the achievement of their Specialist Status in Humanities, the opening of their splendid new teaching block and the feast of St Titus and Timothy and their patron St Thomas à Becket.

Our college was granted humanities status last year and Friday provided the college with an opportunity to celebrate the award. The college’s pupils participated in a multi-lingual Mass in the morning and representatives of every form group received a South American cross to display in his or her form room.

Many visitors including officers of the church and the Local Authority were able to attend the afternoon Mass and the college was delighted to welcome back lots of friends both old and new. Teacher colleagues who have moved on to pastures new, parents, governors and members of the wider school community celebrated together. Mass was an affirmation of the College’s shared values as a community who study and learn together to gain a better understanding of ourselves and the world around us; the Humanities College is justifiably proud of its academic record but also prides itself on developing the individual pupil as a whole.

Gifts of learning and reflection from the Humanities department were offered in thanks. As part of the afternoon’s programme Monsigneur Heskin from the Diocese of Leeds, blessed the newly refurbished Humanities rooms and the recently completed Humanities and Science Block. Both offer excellent accommodation for both learners and teachers.
