Lourdes
Fundraising a great success
On behalf of all the Year 10 Lourdes group and their families,
we just wanted to inform you of our recent fundraising ventures. For a
start there was the fantastic fundraising night at School on the 11th
of April which raised about £1800 and for which we would like to
thank all who supported us.
The same can also be said of our sponsored walk from Padley to Eyam that
took place the next day and was a great experience for all who took part!
Some pupils and parents put in successful bids for grants from Wakefield
Community Chest (just over £1000) and Wakefield Young Peoples’
Service (£500) who both recognised the valuable contribution the
group will make to enhancing the lives of the elderly and sick in our
community.
We have also been fundraising in our separate parishes and were amazed
by peoples’ generosity. First off, was the ‘Arts’ Evening
at St. Austin’s. A race night was held at St. Ignatius parish, as
was a Car Boot Sale the next morning at Ss Peter and Paul’s, both
of which were highly successful. There has also been a Quiz night at St
Ignatius, as well as lots of coffee mornings in St Austin’s, St
Mary’s, Ss Peter and Paul’s and St. Ignatius’s. Those
of us from the two Barnsley parishes of Holy Rood and St Theresa’s
have also been supported, in particular with donations from their St Vincent
de Paul (SVP) societies.
The local Parishes have been really kind in allowing some of us to speak
at the end of Mass and allow for second collections.
We would like to take this opportunity to again thank everyone who has
lent their support to us in any way, we have now raised nearly £10,000
which has exceeded our expectations by far!
Here are some views about our experiences and hopes this year...
