New
School Building Takes Shape
Building of the new extension to St. Thomas à Becket Catholic
College is progressing rapidly with the external structure complete
and classrooms currently being decorated.
The new block at the college will contain a dedicated Drama Suite
and Science lab along with two new classrooms and office space.
The building will be accessed through the current college building
by upper and lower corridors. Below are images of the progress.
Miss Lorna Gosling, Head of Drama at the college recently commented
on the project: "The new Drama studio will bring Drama at St.
Thomas a Beckets into a whole new stage of development. The purpose
built space will provide students with an opportunity to develop
their skills and understanding in lighting as well as provide them
with a more suitable amount of room to create their performances.
It is an interactive space which houses the latest technologies
allowing the standard of both teaching and learning to be raised.
It will be a studio that will be creative and enhance the willingness
to learn the subject in a custom built facility. Finally it will
provide the college with an intimate performance venue, allowing
to showcase more of our work to smaller audiences.
I literally cant wait to get in there!"
The new building has seen a big shake up of the Science department
and at the end of the project they will see significant changes.
Miss Rebecca Atkinson, Head of Science at the college, said: "The
new building will provide the Science Department with one fully
refurbished and 2 brand new laboratories so that we will have 6
teaching rooms and a Prep room all in the same area. This will ensure
that from January 2007 all pupils will have all of their science
lessons in a lab. We are certain that our students will enjoy learning
in a bright and stimulating environment with modern facilities."
