Learn about the 'Miracle of Life'
"I thought the LIFE day was an interesting experience because
a lot was learned during the day".
In the first session a woman call Eileén Maher, from the LIFE
charity in Sheffield, came to St. Austin’s theatre to talk about
the miracle of life with Year 10 pupils. She told us about the difference
stages in which a baby grows and develops. She used life size models of
the baby at each stage to help explain that the baby had thoughts and
feelings at such a young age. The life size models proved popular with
most of the year 10 students. We went off into smaller groups and discussed
thoughts and feelings that we may have had.
The next session ‘sanctity of life’ helped us reflect
on the miracle of life. We were given a set of cards in small groups
and had to put them in order of importance. On the cards were statements
and bible quotes about life and how precious life is. The cards
made us think about life and why we should appreciate our lives.
We have no right to destroy any lives or our own.
Our third session was ‘tentenproductions’ about the
‘babies project’ where two actors came to show us a
drama about the miracle of life and abortion. The plot of the story
was that Annie was pregnant and boyfriend Joe gave the impression
that he didn’t want the baby but after a talk with his mother
about his own childhood, he realised that he wanted to be a father
and have a child. When he told Annie about this it turned out that
Annie had already had an abortion. This caused devastation with
Joe. The abortion went ahead because there was no real communication
from either the mother or father.
Communication was a key word throughout the day.
