On a roll in rock contest

STUDENTS from St. Thomas à Becket College had every faith in the performance that got them through to the finals of an international competition.

A group of 130 students took part in the nothern heat of the Rock Challenge International Competition at St George's Hall in Bradford at the end of April.

They took first place with an eight-minute dance entitled Many Paths One Goal, based on the world's six main faiths of Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism and Sikhism.

It aimed to show that even though we all live in a diverse and multi-cultural world, we all share the same goal of peace and happiness.

Judges praised the students on the relevance of the theme for today's world and on the quality of their dancing.

The college also picked up the prize for best costume.

Rock Challenge International is a performing arts competition for secondary colleges. It aims to act as an international drug and crime prevention vehicle, which gives out the message that you can get a buzz without taking drugs, drinking or smoking.

The final is due to take place in Grimsby today.
