Eighteen year 8 netballers attended the U13 Wakefield District Netball Tournament at Wakefield Girls High School on Monday 12th March. Both teams showed great sportswomanship and played to the best of their ability. Team A lost 3 games out of 4 by just one point in each game and won the final game 4-1. Team B lost 3 of their 4 games and drew the final one. Mrs Davies and Miss Rowley were very proud of them and their positive attitudes. Well done year 8!

Netball Beckets' Y7 netball team ease to victory against Castleford

The Beckett’s vs. Castleford high school match was a definite success for the year 7 netball team. As soon as the whistle blew Lucy Woodall(C) passed to Charlotte Rothery (WA) and then it was passed to Alice Fisher (GA) who scored a fantastic shoot.
With some very good defending from Georgia Samajiha (WD) and a replacement of Lauren
(GK), Lauren was doing brilliant until a foul was made which led to a painful injury and she had to be replaced by Chloe.
We managed to get to half time with a score of 10-4 to Becket’s!
During the second half we had some great play from Laura (GS) and Becky Withers (GD) and shot after shot we went nearer to winning. After Charlotte Rothery was banged to the floor by a Castleford player, we were given a penalty which led to another brilliant goal by the teamwork of Laura and Alice Fisher!
The final score was an outstanding 16-8 to Becket’s. I would like to say a big thank you to all the people who took part in this game, you were fantastic!

Team:
Lucy Woodall (C) and captain, Charlotte Rothery (WA) and vice captain, Georgia Samajiha (WD), Alice Fisher (GA), Laura (GS), Lauren (GK), Becky Withers (GD), Chloe sub, Emily Wodge sub

Football Year 10 Wakefield District Cup Hemsworth v Beckets - Williams wins it with wonder strike!

St. Thomas à Becket Year 10 football team travelled to Hemsworth to play the league and cup champions from last year in the first round of this years district cup. The odds were against Beckets as many of our team had never played on artificial astro turf and this was evident as we went into half time two goals behind. Hair dryer treatment was given at the break and the boys responded fantastically by getting two early goals in the second half. The first was created by Connolly on the right hand side and well finished by Carey. The second was a good through ball down the left channel where Rothery capitalized, cooly slotting the ball into the back of net.

At 2 - 2, Beckets were the only side looking to win the game and created a host of chances, with one falling to Callum 'the machine' Williams. He drilled an unstoppable left footed strike into the bottom of the goal, which pushed Beckets into the lead for the first time in the game. With 5 minutes left, the unthinkable happened as a sloppy goal was conceded. The game looked like it was going to extra time but with seconds to spare Parkin let fly only for the shot to be blocked, the rebound fell kindly to Williams who dispatched a sweet right footed shot passed the outstretched keepers hands.

Final score: Hemsworth 3 v 4 Beckets
Man of the Match: Callum Williams
