Students
smash records
RECORD-breaking exam results gave cause for celebration yesterday
as colleges across Wakefield achieved their highest pass rates.
All headteachers have said they are delighted with the outstanding
GCSE results and have praised students and staff for their dedication
and commitment.
It was full marks for students at Horbury College, where the best
results in the college's history were recorded with 60 per cent
gaining five or more grades A* to C.
Wakefield City High College far exceeded its challenging 40 percent
target when 47 per cent of students achieved five A* to C grades.
Headteacher Alan Yellup said: "I would like to congratulate
all the students and staff who have worked so hard to achieve these
results."
Records were also broken at St. Thomas à Becket Catholic
College in Sandal, where 79 per cent of students got five A* to
C grades, and at Ossett College another personal best was recorded
with the pass rate at A* to C standing at 76 per cent.
Nationally the overall pass rate at A* to C experienced its biggest
rise since 1992, with an average of 61.2 per cent.
