    Frequently Asked Questions about ePortal

    Q. When I log in to ePortal the screen says “Session Expired” in a number of places?

    A. This is usually to do with the security software you have installed on your computer (e.g. Norton, McAfee), you will need to configure your security software so that the website is added to its ‘safe list’. To determine that it is your security software, disable it for a few minutes and log in again to see if it works.

    Q. When I try to open a pupil report I get an error message?

    A. Pupil reports are stored in the Adobe PDF format and you need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them. This is a free product that can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

    Q. In the attendance section it states that my son/daughter was absent on a particular day but I know they were at school?

For parents/guardians: Understanding the attendance page

After logging in to ePortal click on the grey ‘More’ link next to the Attendance heading to access the main attendance screen.

At the top of the page you are given a summary of the pupil’s overall attendance as a pie chart and a table of data. The data is split in to present, late, absent and authorised absent.

  • The numbers refer to sessions (one session is either AM registration or PM registration). Two sessions (AM and PM) make up a day.
  • Absent indicates the sessions that were missed and no reason has yet been given (i.e. unauthorised).
  • Authorised absent indicates the sessions that were missed and have been explained, usually by a parental note (i.e. medical, illness, family).
  • A late indicates where a pupil arrived after 8.40am in the morning and 1.50pm in the afternoon (i.e. after the bell for regsitration).
  • Below the summary of attendance data is a list of all the pupil’s absences. This information shows the date of the absence and whether or not it is an authorised absence. To include late sessions in the list put a tick in the box at the top of the information that reads ‘Include Lates’. The other tick box ‘Include non-statistical absences’ shows those absences that are not included in overall statistics, for example, absence due to an approved sporting activity, work experience or educational visit.

For parents/guardians: Understanding the results page

The results page lists the grades and comments for each subject that are published on school reports. This screen is confusing as it contains grades from previous years and the format of reporting has changed each year. We recommend parents/guardians do not use this screen and view reports under the Reports section instead.
